PCGS Launches Rarities Holder

Professional Coin Grading Service (www.PCGS.com) is now offering a striking new “Rarities” holder option at no additional fee for historic coins that merit special attention. One of the first coins encapsulated in the new, larger holder is the finest known 1913 Liberty Head Nickel, graded PCGS PR66, owned by distinguished numismatist Gerald R. Forsythe who has been credited with the design for the new holder.

Standard PCGS holders measure approximately 3.25 inches tall by 2.5 wide while the new Rarities holders are approximately 5 x 4 inches.

Forsythe’s all-time finest Mint State and Proof Liberty Head nickels collection, including the 1913 Liberty Head Nickel, has been encapsulated in the brand-new design. The collection made its debut at the PCGS booth during the recent ANA convention. This is the first time in history a 1913 Liberty Head Nickel, of which there are only five known, has been displayed with complete Mint State and Proof sets.

PCGS President Brett Charville announced the launch of the new Rarities holder at the Annual PCGS Set Registry Awards Luncheon on August 16, 2019.

“It is always exciting to work directly with a collector to bring a new product to the market. These holders are meant to make a statement and allow collectors to share their prized coins in a distinctive way,” said Charville. “The decision to share this creation with the collecting community as a free option for the highest tier coins was an easy one to make.”
