We are thrilled to announce that James Sego, founder and president of JMS Coins in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, has been elected as the new President of the Professional Numismatists Guild (PNG) for the 2024-2026 term.
James Sego brings a wealth of experience and dedication to his new role, having served on the PNG Board of Directors for seven years. His extensive knowledge of the numismatic hobby and market, combined with his executive expertise, makes him an excellent choice to lead the organization. “Being elected President of the Professional Numismatists Guild is the greatest honor in my coin career,” said Sego. “I look forward to the progress our team can make over the next two years.”
The new PNG officers and board members for the 2024-2026 term include:
- Vice President: John Brush of David Lawrence Rare Coins
- Treasurer: William J. Gale
- Secretary: Dustin Johnston of Heritage Auctions
Board members:
- Greg Allen of Greg Allen Coins
- Former PNG President Jeff Garrett of Mid-American Rare Coin Galleries
- PNG Immediate Past President Wayde Milas of RARCOA
- Don Rinkor of Rinkor Rare Coins
- Andrew Salzberg of RARCOA
“Under PNG Bylaws, member-dealers elect the board members at large, and then the elected board members select the officers from within their group,” explained PNG Executive Director John Feigenbaum. “I’m really excited about James Sego as the new PNG President. James is highly respected by his peers for his numismatic knowledge ranging from classic coins to the modern era.”
James Sego has an impressive background in numismatics, having collaborated with John Wexler and Kevin Flynn on “The Authoritative Reference Guide to Eisenhower Silver Dollars.” Before becoming a full-time professional dealer, he served as an executive at The Quaker Oats Company for two decades.
Sego outlined three primary goals for his tenure:
- Representing the PNG: Continuing to uphold PNG’s reputation as the premier organization for full-time coin dealers and a trusted source for consumers.
- Creating More Value for Member Dealers: Enhancing direct marketing of the PNG Brand, increasing visibility in the media and at shows, and providing more tangible benefits for members.
- Education: Focusing on the nexGen program, generously funded by Mark Salzberg and run by Amanda DiPace. This initiative pairs young dealers with experienced PNG Mentors to educate them about the industry and includes lectures by industry leaders on various topics such as security, finance, and grading.
Founded in 1955, the Professional Numismatists Guild is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring integrity, instilling confidence, and promoting professionalism in numismatics. The PNG comprises many of the country’s top rare coin and paper money experts who adhere to a strict code of ethics and guarantee the authenticity of the items they sell.
