Prepare for a numismatic spectacle unlike any other as the Great American Coin and Collectibles Show makes its grand debut at the Tampa Convention Center from September 11th to 14th, 2024. Among the illustrious treasures to be showcased, one of America’s most renowned rare coins, the legendary 1913 Liberty Head nickel, will take center stage, insured for an astounding $6.25 million.

This rare nickel, one of only five known to exist, boasts a storied history and represents a pinnacle of numismatic achievement. While two of its counterparts reside in esteemed museum collections such as the Smithsonian, the specimen to be displayed in Tampa stands out as the finest among its limited brethren, according to Larry Shepherd, convention manager for the event.

“The significance of this gathering cannot be overstated,” Shepherd emphasized. “It’s a unique opportunity for collectors, enthusiasts, and the public to witness firsthand some of the most iconic pieces in American numismatic history.”

Accompanying the 1913 Liberty Head nickel will be another numismatic marvel—a rare penny with a value so staggering it could nearly match the price tag of a Rolls-Royce automobile. This penny, minted in 1943, defies convention, as it was mistakenly struck using the previous year’s copper/bronze alloy instead of the mandated zinc-coated steel, a consequence of the pressing need for copper during World War II. Insured for $360,000, this mismade 1943 Lincoln cent represents a fascinating anomaly in the annals of coinage history.

GreatCollections of Irvine, California, will proudly exhibit both the $6.25 million nickel and the rare 1943 Lincoln cent, offering attendees a rare glimpse into the world of high-value numismatic artifacts.

In addition to these headline attractions, the Great American Coin and Collectibles Show promises a diverse array of offerings, with hundreds of dealers from across the country convening to buy and sell rare coins, paper money, gold, and silver. Patrons will have the opportunity to engage with experts, who will provide complimentary evaluations of vintage coins, currency, and other collectibles throughout the event.

Among the distinguished evaluators is Jeff Garrett, a nationally renowned professional numismatist and the editor of the esteemed annual reference book A Guide Book of United States Coins. Garrett’s expertise will be available to the public on Friday, September 13th, adding further depth to an already enriching experience.

The show will be open to the public from September 11th to 14th, with varying hours each day to accommodate different schedules. Admission is $15 from Tuesday to Friday, with free entry for all on Saturday. For those eager to delve into the world of numismatics or simply marvel at these rare treasures, the Great American Coin and Collectibles Show promises an unforgettable experience.
