We are thrilled to announce that the Central States Numismatic Society (CSNS) will be presenting the prestigious Q. David Bowers Award to the esteemed numismatic publisher and author, Dennis Tucker. This honor comes as a recognition of Tucker’s outstanding contributions to the numismatic community throughout his illustrious career, particularly during his 19 years at Whitman Publishing.
As the overseer of more than 300 titles of monographs and reference books, including the iconic A Guide Book of United States Coins, Tucker has played an instrumental role in advancing hobby knowledge and enjoyment. His dedication and commitment have resulted in the sale of over six million copies of the Red Book, a testament to his impact on the numismatic world.
Named after the renowned dealer and numismatic author Q. David Bowers, the Bowers Award is a symbol of excellence in the field. Recipients of this award are selected by members of the CSNS Board of Directors, recognizing individuals who have significantly contributed to the advancement of numismatics.
“I appreciate and value this honor from Central States for several reasons,” said Tucker. “It is named for one of my greatest mentors, Dave Bowers, whose books have inspired me since childhood. Additionally, I am humbled to join the ranks of previous honorees, all of whom I deeply respect and admire.”
The presentation of the Bowers Award will take place during the 2024 CSNS convention in Schaumburg, Illinois, on May 2-4. This momentous occasion will be marked by the annual CSNS membership meeting, where Tucker will be presented with the award by his long-time friend Barbara Gregory, Editor of the CSNS magazine The Centinel.
