The Early Date US Large Cent Rapid Attribution Guide by a Metropolitan Coin Club of Atlanta young numismatist, Thomas Walker, is a new work carefully designed to help beginning and expert collectors alike with attributing early date large cents. The 186-page paperback is available from Amazon.com for $44.95.
It incorporates a novel approach including instantly recognizable diagnostics for many varieties, plates containing significant die states, and variety isolation flowcharts. Contained also within the book is an important discussion on the high-quality counterfeits plaguing early large cents with diagnostics clearly presented. All these tools use large pictures and large text to make using this guide easy on the eyes.
Using this guide, you will find yourself making attributions far more quickly. You will also find yourself remembering diagnostics much easier, which will give you a great cherrypicking edge. Much of the information in this affordable guide is not easily found outside of this book, with such information either being locked away in rare and expensive references or only gleaned from experience.
The first volume covers cents from 1793 to 1797, which is roughly half of all large cent varieties. The second volume, which will cover cents from 1798 to 1814, will come out in the first half of 2021. In addition, far more collectors deal with cents from 1798-1814 than those from 1793-1797, so breaking up the guide was a logical step in keeping the information within affordable and relevant to collectors.
