Whitman® Publishing has unveiled the fifth edition of 100 Greatest United States Modern Coins, authored by the award-winning team of Scott Schechter and Jeff Garrett. This refreshed edition brings a “Modern Makeover” to the beloved series, offering numismatists an expanded and updated exploration of the most significant coins minted in the United States from 1964 to the present day.
Featuring stunning full-color photographs, compelling narratives, and expert analysis, 100 Greatest U.S. Modern Coins continues to be a definitive resource for coin enthusiasts of all levels. The fifth edition captures the vibrancy of modern numismatics, from iconic Lincoln cents to platinum bullion rarities, while reflecting recent trends, updated values, and the latest innovations from the U.S. Mint.
“Our goal with the fifth edition was to deliver a fresh perspective while maintaining the integrity of what makes this book a collector’s favorite,” said co-author Scott Schechter. “It reflects the evolution of the market, new directions from the U.S. Mint, and shifting interest in commemoratives and error coins.”

What’s New in the Fifth Edition

- Ten new coins joined the list, including fresh error-coin discoveries and commemoratives with record-low mintages.
- Sixty-seven coins changed rank, some moving by ten or more places.
- Nine coins from the previous edition were retired, and two entries were merged.
The fifth edition also includes all-new introductory material, such as a Foreword by David Ryder, the 34th and 39th Director of the U.S. Mint; a Publisher’s Preface by John Feigenbaum, CEO and President of Whitman Brands; and Modern-Coin Grading Essentials by Mark Salzberg, Co-Founder and former Chairman and CEO of Certified Collectibles Group.
