Jim Braun’s house in Atlanta was built in 1941. He was moving several plants in his front yard that had been there for many years. As Jim was removing the plants, a bright shiny object in the soil caught his attention. Jim picked up the object removing the dirt on it to discover it was a 1943 Winged Liberty Head or “Mercury” dime!
Jim mused about when and how the coin became lost. Perhaps when a Coke and hot dog could have been bought at the downtown Varsity for a dime? The coin is worn and damaged—most likely from years of the home’s previous owners digging there. Regardless, it’s a very cool find, which he shared with his friend David Crenshaw.
